I had the opportunity to take photos during young adult author Melanie J Fishbane’s talk at the Hamilton Public Library. I worked with Melanie last year to design her new author website, and photography was certainly an area where some improvement was needed. Usable event photos were especially lacking.

I used a telephoto lens so I could keep my distance and still get close-up photos. Melanie commented how she almost forgot I was there! This is essential so the subject is relaxed and natural. The resulting photos tell the story of the event and convey the personality of the speaker.

All in all it was a fun day and it was great to see Melanie in action, engaging with young readers and writers.
